AYELET . HARPAZ
After acquiring an LL.B. from The Tel Aviv University, she studied singing at the Rubin Music Academy in Tel Aviv and was also involved in experimental dance-theatre and film productions.
In 1996 she moved to The Netherlands, where she studied singing in the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and later with Marjanne Kweksilber.
She performs as a solist, as a member of various ensembles and as an improviser, and dedicates herself to the development of contemporary vocal repertoire, such as the trilogy of theatre pieces she created with Netochka Nezvanova, which aimed at developing a synthesis of composed and improvised music with live voice and image processing techniques; or her voice and electronics solo program which focused on extended vocal techniques and processing.
She has premiered works by Yannis Kyriakides (including a conSPIracy cantata which won the Gaudeamus Prize 2000, and was released on Unsounds 01), Calliope Tsoupaki, Martijn Padding, David Dramm, and Marko Ciciliani.
She sang in ZT Hollandias music-theatre production Spinoza or I am not where I think myself to be - directed by Paul Koek with music by Yannis Kyriakides (also released on Unsounds - 'The Thing Like Us') and in 'Vita Nova', a chamber opera composer Calliope Tsoupaki wrote for her voice. Future music-theater productions include new works by Yannis Kyriakides, David Dramm and Sidney Marquez Boquiren.
She has performed in international music festivals such as The Gaudeamus Music Week, The Grachten Festival, Aldeburgh Festival, Altermedium Moscow, Warsaw Autumn and Ultima Oslo.
Her performances have been recorded and broadcasted by radio stations all over Europe (such as Dutch VPRO and Concertzender, BBC Word Service and BBC Radio 3) and the US.
